Hop On Board With Kelly Slater

Kelly Slater might be impressive enough if for all these years he just sat on a surf board, rocking back and forth in five feet of water for hours at a time. Suffice it to say, the man is one handsome devil. But Slater is also the best at what he does – ever. For the better part of two decades, Slater has mesmerized the surfing world and redefined what it means to ride the wave. And along the way, he’s revealed standout Character as one of sport’s greatest guys.

Since he began his professional career in 1990, Slater has amassed 11 World Surf League championships and become the all-time leader in surfing events won. At 20 years old, he became the youngest ever to win a World Surf League title, and then at age 39, he became the oldest to ever do so. His longevity and continued dominance in the sport are clear indications of his unrivaled Skill. But Slater hasn’t just contributed personal achievements to surfing – he changed the sport itself. His innovative maneuvers, powerful cutbacks, and uncanny coordination have altered the surfing landscape and ultimately crowned him the greatest surfer of all time.

When away from the surf board, Slater has proven an outstanding citizen, frequently advocating for and supporting a long list of causes. He has been a fundraiser and spokesperson for suicide prevention, while also speaking out against domestic abuse and serving on the Board of Advisors for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. The latter represents his commitment to ocean and sea life preservation around the world. Slater has also been outspoken when it comes to health and dieting, stating that “health is the most important thing you own.” Through social media, he has shared some of his favorite dishes as well as advice for others. Over the course of his career, Slater has been steadfast in his beliefs and has shown great Character in caring for others and his many passions.

At first glance, it’s easy to take in Slater’s attractiveness. But don’t lose sight of the fact that he has some serious surfing ability. And if we peel back one more layer, we can also discover the kind of integrity that makes him that much more CRUSH worthy. At 44 years old, Slater may not have many years of competitive surfing left ahead, but rest assured, he’ll have his hands full when the time to hang it up arrives.
