With the Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 cricket final scheduled for Sunday, May 27, we thought it was a perfect opportunity to showcase our Athlete CRUSH for AB de Villiers. De Villiers’ Royal Challengers Bangalore will square off against David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad in a championship match sure to be full of passion and excitement. Click here for Athlete CRUSH’s article on David Warner: (http://www.athletecrush.com/cricket/athlete-crush-david-warner-ipl-t20-australia/) The stage will be set for de Villiers, as the South African will once again look to show why he is the best batsman in the world.

The records and accomplishments that de Villiers has compiled during his illustrious career are remarkable. In one-day international matches (ODI, a faster and more exciting form of the sport), de Villiers has reached 50, 100, and 150 runs faster than any other batsman. He also played 78 test innings (the traditional form of the sport) without scoring a duck (score of 0); another mark yet to be broken. The International Cricket Council (ICC) subsequently named him the ODI player of the year in 2010, 2014, and 2015.
Just as impressive as his achievements have been the ways in which he has peppered history books and shown his Skill. Nicknamed Mr. 360, de Villiers displays an uncanny ability to utilize the entire cricket pitch, seemingly regardless of the opposing bowler and location of the ball when played. Not only must fielders stay on their toes, but spectators in the stands must also be vigilant. The following video shows some of his best 6’s (shots over the furthest boundary), and as alluded to before, there’s no way to predict where they might land.
While de Villiers uses the entire playing surface, he also relies on a wide range of batting techniques. This means he possesses a mastery of traditional shots, but also those much more unorthodox. As a result, de Villiers invariably maintains control when at the batting crease and rarely sees his weaknesses exposed (if he has any at all). Bowlers are understandably not wild about this challenge. What this ultimately amounts to is facing one of the best batsmen to every play the sport, who decimates opponents through his unmatched creativity and confounding hand-eye coordination. Some of his most awe-inspiring, unconventional shots can be seen below.
The IPL T20 final on Sunday is shaping up to be a cricketing spectacle. David Warner vs. AB de Villiers. The Aussie detonator against the South African magician. There may be no telling which side will prevail, however, the sport’s top talent will undoubtedly be on full display. De Villiers will look to add to his formidable accomplishments, while hopefully treating audiences around the world to his artistic, one-of-a-kind style.
